Who is this qualification for?
If you have been working in the Electrotechnical industry for over 5 years and have not completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ, then this route is for you. It is suitable for both employed and self-employed persons within the industry. The entry requirements are as follows:
- Working in electrotechnical industry for over 5 years
- As of the 21/09/2023 candidates must also hold a Level 2 Diploma as a minimum in order to register for this NVQ. This means that holders of a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma / Technical Certificate are eligible.
The key benefit of this route is that your existing qualifications, skills and experience count towards the qualification.
- Complete an NVQ Portfolio
- Complete an AM2E Assessment.
- Have an up-to-date Wiring Regulations qualification
- Have a Level 3 Initial Verification Inspection and Testing Qualification.
Upon successful completion of the above you will be eligible to apply for a JIB Gold Card.
This qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, or for apprentices, or for those who have completed an electrotechnical technical qualification with less than five years relevant experience as an electrician. You will not be required to complete any Knowledge Units, but you must hold The current edition of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 18th Edition BS7671-22 as a minimum:
You will also need to undertake an AM2E assessment before you can apply for your ECS Gold Card.

How is this qualification assessed?
- The learner will be assessed on their portfolio of work based evidence.
- There are six Level 3 Performance Units to be assessed before you can gain the Experienced Worker qualification:
- Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations
- Organise and Oversee the Electrical Work Environment
- Apply Design and Installation Practices and Procedures or Applied Practices and Procedures for Maintenance
- Terminate and Connect Conductors
- Inspect, Test and Commission Electrical Systems
- Apply Fault Diagnosis and Rectification
The assessment for this qualification is via the completion of a portfolio of work based evidence.
All successful candidates will receive The Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification including certificate.
