Level 3 Award in the Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations

This fully accredited OZEV recognised qualification is for people who wish to further their knowledge and enhance their skill-set. It is aimed at individuals, contractors and businesses who wish to move into the growth area of Vehicle Charging. This course if fully accredited with certification from the awarding body and approved for OZEV grants, funding and finance.

This is a 'blended learning' course held over one evening 6-9pm on Zoom/Teams with a live tutor to familiarise candidates with the latest edition of the EV Code of Practice  and then a final full day conducted in-centre (either London or Hemel Hempstead on a Saturday of your choice 9.30am-4pm) which includes a revision session and assessments. All practice assessment material provided.

What the course covers

The course is based around the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment 5th Edition

This course covers all the main skills required to install, fault find and inspect and test electric vehicle charging points including:

  • Introduction to Electric Vehicles – Electric Vehicle types.
  • Characteristics, Charging requirements, Safety considerations.
  • Overview of Electric Vehicle charging.
  • Modes of Electric Vehicle charging, requirements and restrictions.
  • Electrical Installation Requirements.
  • Supply, Earthing, Planning permission, Explosive atmospheres, Protection, Labelling, Control, Risk assessment.
  • Domestic, commercial & public installations.
  • Installation – Practical domestic and commercial installation.
  • Inspection, Test and Certification.
  • Commissioning and DNO paperwork.
  • Risk Assessment and pre & post-installation checklists.
  • System Test, Fault Finding and Examination.
  • Includes both a practical and written assessments.

 

This course is designed for competent individuals who are looking to enhance their current skill and knowledge to allow them to install domestic, commercial and “on street” vehicle charging points

It is expected that candidates already have an understanding of The Electrical Wiring Regulations BS7671-18 Eighteenth Edition.

You should have a Level 3 Electrical Installation Qualification or Gold Card to register on to this course.
