Background:
This qualification has been designed with the CIPHE and the Heat Pump Association with the help of their members to meet the need for now and the future that all heating systems be designed with a low temperature aim from the outset to maximize efficiency of the system. The objective of this qualification is for learners to be up-skilled to the concept of low temperature heating systems, it will allow them to demonstrate their knowledge and understand the need and requirements for installing low temperature heating and hot water systems in dwellings.

The Learner will:

  • know the latest industry standards and regulatory framework relating to heating design.
  • know the requirements for undertaking a room by room heat loss for a property.
  • know how to correctly size heat emitters for low temperature heating systems.
  • know how to correctly size pumps and pipework.
  • know how to correctly size a domestic hot water system.
  • know the basic design principles of system configurations.

Flexible Learning Options – Choose the Best Fit for You.

This course is now available in three different formats, allowing you to choose the most convenient way to complete your training:

1. Traditional Classroom Learning

Attend in person at our training centre, where you will receive face-to-face teaching from an experienced tutor. This interactive learning environment allows you to engage in discussions, ask questions, and benefit from hands-on demonstrations where applicable.

2. Live Online Learning via Zoom

Join our virtual classroom from anywhere with a live tutor guiding you through the course. This option provides the structure of a classroom setting with the flexibility of online learning, allowing you to interact with your tutor and fellow students in real time.

3. Distance Learning Pack

Receive all course materials via email and study at your own pace from home. This self-directed option is ideal if you prefer to fit your learning around your schedule.

Important: When booking, please check the available dates to see whether your chosen session is classroom-based or online.

For distance learning, simply book the course and request your Distance Learning Pack and we will send this off to you via email.

All learning options include the same course content and assessment papers. If your course has a practical element or requires an in-centre assessment, you can arrange this at your convenience to fit around your work and home life.

Which ever learning option you choose our Tutors are always available for questions either over the phone or via email at any point on your course, so you will always feel supported in your studies with us.

Pre-requisites:
N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
or

N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
or

N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
or

N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
or

N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence.
or

heating installers with experience installing wet central heating systems, evidenced either by manufacturer courses certification or Gas Safe Register, OFTEC, MCS or HETAS registration.

These pre-requisites are not required where this Qualification is being delivered as part of a recognised training course in any of the above.

 Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – Are You Eligible Without All the Formal Qualifications?

At Activate Training, we understand that many trades people and engineers have years of valuable experience – even if they don’t hold every formal qualification listed as a course pre-requisite.

That’s why we use Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to help experienced professionals access key renewable training like:

  • Heat Pumps
  • Low Temperature Hot Water System Design
  • Unvented Hot Water G3
  • Water Regulations

🛠️ What Counts as Prior Learning?

If you’ve worked in the industry and have hands-on experience, you may still be eligible to enrol even if you don’t hold an NVQ3 – as long as you can provide:

  • Employer letters confirming your job roles and tasks
  • Photos or documents of work you’ve done
  • Old or partial qualifications or training certificates
  • Signed statements from site managers or supervisors
  • A clear technical CV
