LCL Awards Building Regulations for Electrical Installations in Dwellings - Part P

This course is primarily aimed at new entrants to the Electrical industry who require a solid introduction to Part P of the Building Regulations and a good practical introduction to Domestic electrical work.

If you are from an associated trade and require an understanding of the impact of Part P on your particular sector then this is the course for you.

This is a hands-on practical course.  

The Part P Domestic Electrical Installer Course will confirm competence and knowledge of Part P of The Building Regulations and is a route to registering for your relevant trade card as well as working under supervision as a Domestic Part P Installer.

The Government approved Document P; (electrical safety) came into effect on the 1st January 2005. This meant that the mainstream work of domestic electrical installers became subject to the requirements and procedures associated with Building Control for the first time. In Sept 2021 it became a requirement to hold a Level 3 Electro-technical qualification or equivalent (NVQ) to become a member of a competent person scheme and this 4 day practical course is the perfect introduction to the new requirements of Domestic Electrical work in the UK.

  • Circuit Specifications
  • Kitchens, Bathrooms and Special Locations
  • Inspection & Testing
  • Safe Working
  • Understand the Building Regulations in terms of scope, purpose and structure
  • Identify the type of building work that is:

a) notifiable and;

b) non-notifiable

  • Under Part P of the Building Regulations
  • Identify relevant Approved Documents
  • Understand how Building Regulations are enforced
  • Identify the role of Building Control Services by the

a) Local Authority Building Control Services

b) Approved Inspector’s Building Control Services

  • Building Regulations Part P and Part M
  • Electrical Science and Principles
  • Cable calculations
  • Safe Isolation
  • Electrical Installation Theory and Technology

  • Containment, trunking and conduit
  • Use of tools, equipment, components
  • Wiring power and lighting circuits
  • Showers, spurs, cookers
  • Wiring and circuit diagrams
  • Earthing and bonding
  • Using test equipment, fault finding
  • Initial Verification, testing and certification

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but the content will primarily be of interest to anyone involved in Domestic electrical work in the UK, however minimal.
