Low-carbon heat pumps are critical technologies for decarbonising heat. To meet the UK’s legally-binding climate targets, thousands more heating engineers will need to learn to install and maintain these technologies.

To be eligible you must hold at least a Level 2 Qualification in Plumbing/Heating or related trade, or a Gas qualification as well as the WRAS Water Regulations qualification. We can provide the Water Regulations free of charge if you do not already hold this qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – Are You Eligible Without All the Formal Qualifications?

At Activate Training, we understand that many trades people and engineers have years of valuable experience – even if they don't hold every formal qualification listed as a course pre-requisite.

That’s why we use Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to help experienced professionals access key renewable training like:

  • Heat Pumps
  • Low Temperature Hot Water System Design
  • Unvented Hot Water G3
  • Water Regulations

🛠️ What Counts as Prior Learning?

If you’ve worked in the industry and have hands-on experience, you may still be eligible to enrol even if you don’t hold an NVQ3 – as long as you can provide:

  • Employer letters confirming your job roles and tasks
  • Photos or documents of work you've done
  • Old or partial qualifications or training certificates
  • Signed statements from site managers or supervisors
  • A clear technical CV

🔍 What’s Next?

Our experienced tutors will carry out a quick initial assessment to see if you meet the standard through RPL. If accepted, you can start your training with confidence.

➡️ Have experience but unsure if you qualify? Contact us at 020 3750 8903 or

020 8533 3794 or email us at: info@activate-training.co.uk and we’ll assess your RPL eligibility.
