Candidates with at least 5 years auditable experience within the electrical industry can opt for the Experienced Worker route and obtain their Gold Card.

You will have a minimum of 5-years of verifiable experience in the industry.

Who is this qualification for?

If you have been working in the Electrotechnical industry for over 5 years and have not completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ, then this route is for you. It is suitable for both employed and self-employed persons within the industry. The entry requirements are as follows:

  • Working in electrotechnical industry for over 5 years
  • As of the 21/09/2023 candidates must also hold a Level 2 Diploma as a minimum in order to register for this NVQ. This means that holders of a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma / Technical Certificate are eligible.

The key benefit of this route is that your existing qualifications, skills and experience count towards the qualification.

You will be required to:
  • Complete an NVQ Portfolio
  • Complete an AM2E Assessment.
  • Have an up-to-date Wiring Regulations qualification
  • Have a Level 3 Initial Verification Inspection and Testing Qualification.

Upon successful completion of the above you will be eligible to apply for a JIB Gold Card.

This qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, or for apprentices, or for those who have completed an electrotechnical technical qualification with less than five years relevant experience as an electrician. If you fall into these categories, please see the other routes to becoming an Electrician on our website.

Following an initial assessment for suitability and induction, we will enrol you on the programme. You will then be required to complete an on-site portfolio. Your portfolio will consist of 8 Performance Units and you may be subject to on-site assessment by a qualified Assessor.

You will not be required to complete any Knowledge Units, but you must hold The current edition of the Electrical Wiring Regulations 18th Edition BS7671-22 as a minimum:

The AM2E which is a 2 to 3 day external practical assessment (Not included in the price below). We will give you guidance on this during your time with us.

The timescale for the qualification is flexible based on the individual’s ability to provide their auditable evidence of 5 years work and pass the AM2E.
A timescale of three-months is not unreasonable, however we do realise everyone is different and some may take longer than others which is why we aim to provide a flexible approach with regard to completion timescales for this course.

The AM2E is a practical external assessment to be organised at the end of the course and we advise on this when the candidate is ready,

All successful candidates will receive The Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification including certificate.

For those with less than 5 year industry experience, please choose the Level 3 Diploma and NVQ routes below:
